The Iowa Falls-Alden girls soccer team will begin their next quest for a championship against Central Iowa United in a Class 2A Region 1 semifinal originally scheduled for Tuesday will now be played on Wednesday due to forecasted inclement weather. The Cadets at 11-6 clinched a share of their third North Central Conference title in a row to close the regular season and this will be their first postseason match of the year.

Junior Adessa Gillespie has remained a force around the net for the Cadets with 15 goals. Sophomore Josie Johnson has worked into goalkeeper role with only seven goals allowed and a save percentage of 80.0%.

Head Coach Morgan Vierkandt says fine tuning play on both ends of the field was a key part of practice ahead of facing the Trojans.

“We lean into our defense, so it’s been figuring out some offense and cleaning up some of the little mistakes that we’ve had in the defense end,” says Vierkandt. “It’s awesome to be able to play at home, we like to play on our home turf. Central Iowa United is a team that we used to have on our schedule every year. I think the last time we played them was three years ago. I know that they’re a program on the rise.”

The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ with pregame at 5:50 p.m. and a kickoff at 6:00 p.m. in Iowa Falls.
