Local softball teams are competing at this weekend’s Dave Lee Tournament at BCLUW. In Friday’s action, AGWSR fell to South Hamilton 9-8 and #12 (2A) South Hardin fell to #6 (3A) Sumner-Fredericksburg 4-0.

One half inning was the difference in AGWSR’s loss. After a scoreless first inning, AGWSR piled on seven runs in the top of the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. But the Hawks retook the lead with nine runs scored in the bottom of the second. The Cougars scored for the final time in the top of the third, and neither team scored again. The team compiled eight hits with two apiece by Ella Diemer and Claire Culver. Leah Beving pitched the complete game, which was shortened to five innings due to the tournament’s 90-minute time limit. She gave up eight hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

South Hardin threatened at times offensively, but was shut out. Sumner-Fredericksburg scored once in the third and twice in the fifth inning on RBIs and once in the fourth on a South Hardin error. The Tigers compiled seven hits, with two apiece by Charlee Rosonke (two doubles) and Kaitlynn Dickes. Hailey Rosonke pitched the complete seven innings with seven hits allowed, no walks and nine strikeouts.

In Saturday’s action, South Hardin will take on Gilbert at 11:45 a.m. They’ll end the day by playing Marshalltown at 3:15 p.m.

AGWSR will take on Sumner-Fredericksburg at 10:00 a.m. and will close against BCLUW at 1:30 p.m.

Grundy Center will join the tournament for its second day. They’ll take on Marshalltown at 11:45 a.m. and Gilbert at 3:15 p.m.
