The Grundy Center softball team will take part in the Marshalltown Bobcat Softball Classic Tournament Saturday.

The Spartans (10-12, 3-6 NICL-W) will look to bounce back from Wednesday’s 7-6 loss at Denver, which ended with a walk-off home run. Head Coach Andy Lebo on bouncing back.

“They’ve got short memories on things,” Lebo says. “So I think that’s some of the reasons we’re able to stay in some of these games and not just fall apart, maybe like we did last year. So it’s a great team, great group of girls. I love coaching them and I’m just looking forward to the end stretch here.”

The Spartans will play #6 (2A) Lisbon at 9:30 a.m., followed by BCLUW at 11:15 a.m. With two games in one day leading into the last week of the regular season, Lebo says it’ll be an opportunity to showcase willpower.

“Kids are doing a lot of things, between other sports and strength and conditioning programs. It’s towards the end of the year, so it’s tough. It’s a grind, and everybody’s banged up a little bit. I mean poor Ava Mundt, she wasn’t looking and we threw a ball at her and she didn’t catch it and it hit her and then she had a line drive go off of her foot. So I mean she was beat up to begin with and just kept grinding. So that’s the mentality that we got to take into this to just keep grinding. It’s never over until that last out is made.”

The Spartans have won four of their last six games, including a doubleheader sweep of AGWSR Monday and a 10-9 win over Hudson Tuesday.
