The Hampton-Dumont-CAL summer sports teams will host Nevada to close out the regular season on Monday. The game will also provide the Bulldogs with a third try at hosting senior night after previous two scheduled home games were cancelled due to the weather.
The HD-CAL softball team (7-15) will look to bounce back from a five game losing streak. Teaghan Bird with a .361 avg. and Aspen Harlan with a .315 avg. help power the Bulldogs offense.
HD-CAL Softball Coach Kelsey Enslin says Bulldogs are energized for a special night and the Cubs will provide a challenge.
“We’re doing senior night, and then we’re also doing our USA military night. We had both of those things scheduled before, so the girls are really excited to come and get to do those things and play against a good team,” says Enslin. “Nevada has some really good hitters that’ll challenge us and give us different perspectives on things, and it’s not a team we’ve played. We’ll have to make adjustments and learn as we go. Hopefully we’re refreshed and ready to come back and play hard and look good at the plate.”
Nevada softball (9-21) has dropped their last three games. Megan McGaffin for the Cubs leads the Heart of Iowa Conference with 28 runs driven in and ranks second in batting avg. at 465.
HD-CAL softball will recognize seniors Teaghan Bird, Emma Ott and Aspen Harlan.
HD-CAL baseball (8-20) will look to halt a four game slide. Cael Burmester ranks top three in the North Central Conference with a 473 batting avg. (2nd) and 30 RBI’s (3rd). Brody Walton ranks fifth in the conference with 18 stolen bases.
Bulldog Baseball Coach Matt Lokenvitz reminds the seniors to enjoy the moment in their final home game.
“It’s going to be to enjoy the moment, they all have their different plans on what they’re going to do, whether it’s going to UNI or going to NIAC and pursuing different career paths,” says Lokenvitz. “Enjoy the moment, it’s coming to an end and whatnot but don’t be sad that it’s coming to an end. Really enjoy the positive experiences that you’ve had and the great things that we’ve done throughout their four years of high school.”
Nevada baseball (12-12) enters as winners of two in a row. Jackson Burlage has a 479 batting avg., which ranks first in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
HD-CAL baseball will recognize seniors Cael Burmester, Brody Walton and Joseph Huerta.
First pitch is at 7:30 p.m. in Hampton.
