Aplington-Parkersburg School Board approves General Obligation Bond vote

The Aplington-Parkersburg School Board approved a general obligation bond election at Monday’s meeting.

The approval comes after several months of task force planning, and Superintendent Travis Fleshner says the board members gathered 185 signatures since the June meeting to make it official.

“That was a big piece of the meeting here a couple of nights ago,” Fleshner says. “Committee members brought those forward, presented them to the board president and they accepted those. And then moved on with the resolution language to put out for vote on the November election, $16.5 million general obligation bond for facility updates.”

The scope of the project includes updates and repairs to the high school and a renovation in the Aplington Elementary/Middle School.

Fleshner says resources will soon be available to allow voters to be as informed as possible regarding the use of the $16,500,000 and the tax implications.

“The school’s goal in this, really it’s about communication the next few months and getting accurate information out to our community members. However they choose to exercise their rights, that’s up to them, but we want to make sure we make them as informed as possible when they go to the ballot box in November.”
