Thursday, the Hampton City Council reviewed a request from Franklin County Auditor, Katy Flint, and Franklin County Facilities Director, Ryan Peterson, to remove the sidewalk along the south and west side of the Franklin County Food Pantry location at 302 5th Avenue NE.  The property is owned by the county.

Peterson and Flint both stated the sidewalk is in bad shape and they are not looking at replacing it, only removing it. After discussion, the Hampton City Council approved a motion to table the request to remove the sidewalk. The council will look over the area and discuss the matter further at the August 19th workshop meeting.

In other business, the Hampton City Council reviewed an ordinance of adding additional areas for a no parking zone. The areas added would be along 4th Avenue SE, near South Side Elementary, along the south side of the avenue from 5th Street SE to Highway 65 during school days between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The other area is along 7th Street SW, in an area north of the 5th Avenue SW intersection. The council approved to wave the first and second reading and then approved the third and final reading of said ordinance.
