Belmond-Klemme welcomes two new coaches this fall as Josh Portillo will take over cross-country and Josh Faaborg will step in to lead the football program.

Belmond-Klemme Activities Director James Severson looks forward to what Portillo and Faaborg bring to new roles.

Over in the cross country sector, we share with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. We pulled one of their former wrestlers, Josh Portillo, to join us on our coaching staff and be the head boys and girls coach here cross country,” says Severson. “Then Josh Faaborg is gonna be our new head football coach, he took over this summer and has done a lot of great camps and stuff like that. Both of those guys are gonna start their tenure here at Belmond and we hope it’s a long one. Looking for really good things coming from them.”

A new development in infrastructure at B-K this summer was the moving of the weightroom from a standalone location outside of school to a new setup inside.

Severson says student-athletes took advantage of opportunities to improve this offseason.

“All of our programs went to some form of camp this summer, so that’s really helpful. We look forward to seeing some of those skills expand out onto the playing surfaces. Definitely weight room. We ran weight room all summer, speed and agility as well. We had a lot of kids take advantage of those opportunities to get a little bit bigger, a little bit faster, a little bit stronger, a little bit more knowledgeable. We’re gonna hopefully see some of that as well.”

Severson on the mission of the program entering 2024-2025.

“Across the board is to get our kids to grow and develop. Wins and losses come and go. We’re gonna fight to be competitive and if we do all the right things on and off the field, hopefully they result in some wins. We just look to be competitive throughout the entire year. Looking forward to getting the opportunity for our kids to showcase their talents.”

Belmond-Klemme fall sports practices began on Monday.
