The #8 (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg volleyball team will have a marquee matchup in Thursday’s home opener. They’ll host #12 (2A) Hudson to begin NICL-Central action.
At 7-0, the Falcons have not lost a set. They’re coming off Tuesday’s triangular at #3 (1A) North Tama, where they earned 2-0 sweeps of the hosts and Valley Lutheran. But Thursday will be the first best-of-five match of the season. Peyton Klooster is second in the Central with 53 kills, and the team continues to be strong at the service line with a division-high 58 aces. The team has hit a remarkable .339, the fourth-best in Class 2A.
Hudson (6-2, 0-0 NICL-C) has won five straight, including wins over Alburnett, Cascade and North Linn in a quad on Tuesday. Addie Rhoades leads with 48 kills, but the serving has been a weak point at 84.7 percent efficiency.
The Falcons have won three straight in the series, all of which happened last season. The first serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
