The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team will continue a busy week of action by traveling to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows for a North Central Conference match Thursday. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Bulldogs (2-1, 1-1 NCC) are coming off a 3-1 home loss to Humboldt Tuesday, where they couldn’t hang on after a blowout win in the first set. They’ll look to bounce back behind the leadership of leading hitters Aubryee Showalter and Charlee Morton. Head Coach Sarah Miller.

“Besides their leadership, they’re two of our four captains this season voted on by their teammates,” Miller says. “They’re strong, determined, dedicated girls that put the work in and put the time in. So being able to make that connection with their setter and literally just put that ball down in the correct area, I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of the net when those two are hitting. They’re just really fierce competitors and they have that drive to do what it takes to win.”

Showalter leads with 37 kills and Morton has 22.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (2-4, 0-1 NCC) has been off since last week’s 3-2 home loss to Iowa Falls-Alden, where they gave up a 2-0 lead and only scored four points in the fifth set. Elliot Ennis leads with 36 kills, and Indy Johnson has shown versatility by playing multiple positions. Miller on the preparation for the Cowgirls.

“We need to do what we do best. And I think we’re really gonna be focusing on us coming in to practice getting ready for them. But they have one hitter that I know right now, she has 36 kills. And I think that that’s kind of their majority of attempts that go to her. So we need to make sure that we’re ready for that block as well as for that tip coverage. Indy, I think currently she was playing their setter and we’ve seen her as a libero before. So I think we just need to be prepared, kind of keep our eye on her, seeing where she’s at. But I know that they’re a younger team, which does not mean anything. I feel like Clarion is always coached very, very well. And so they’re gonna be a great team. So I think we just, like I said, need to be prepared and do what we do best and really focus on ourselves to get the job done.”

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows has won eight straight in the series, dating to 2017.

Pregame coverage will begin at 7:20 p.m. and the first serve is scheduled for 7:30.
