The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team will play its first road game of the young season defending an undefeated record in non-district play at West Marshall on Friday night.
H-D-CAL (2-0) saw contributions from all three phases in a 35-7 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows last week. The Bulldogs defense and special teams has stepped up with four interceptions, two fumble recoveries for touchdowns and punt return for a touchdown. The Bulldogs offense has set tempo through its run game led by senior Colin Bird with 186 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Bulldog Head Coach Cole Miller’s scouting report on the Trojans.
“They look to use the size on their offense and push it around within the run game, with a I’m coming straight at you in their run scheme approach. They like to take shots, so we’ll have to be ready for that,” says Miller. “On the defensive side, they like to pack everyone into the box. I think they got eight guys around the line of scrimmage all the time and they try to make it hard for a team to get the run game going. We’ll have to be able to throw the ball this week if we want to be successful.”
West Marshall (1-1) found its stride with a 56-6 win at home over South Hamilton last week. The Trojans offense marches behind Ben Gonzalez with 250 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Their defense on pass coverage has been locked in tracking down six interceptions including two pick sixes.
H-D-CAL won last year’s meeting 43-0 in Hampton.
The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ with the Roling Ford Road to the Dome Warmup Show at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at State Center.
