The #5 (1A) Dike-New Hartford football team surged in the middle quarters to pull away for a 35-6 win at Osage in Friday’s non-district finale.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wolverines built a 14-0 halftime lead on a short run by Noah Borcherding and a 28-yard screen pass to Jack Hoehns.

In the third quarter, Colin Meester recorded two more touchdowns, with one on the ground, a 10-yard pass to Carson Costello, and a 64-yard shot to Jake Reicks.
Meester passed for 191 yards on 12 completions with no interceptions. Borcherding had 17 carries for 82 yards.

“We played well,” Betts says. “We kind of got a slow start, and Osage just had some injuries and some whatnot up there, but they’re a very solid football team. And I thought our kids came out ready to go. We kind of traded blows there in the first quarter and got a couple on the board in the second quarter. But I really liked how we responded coming out at the second half. We’ve struggled to put a complete game together so far this year. And I thought we did that in the second half with some scores there in the third quarter and got a lot of guys in the game, which is always good. Just was real happy with our performance offensively. We still have some things to work on defensively. I thought we had a really solid performance against them defensively.”

Six players caught passes, including Devon Lotts’ team-high four receptions. Defensively, Costello had two interceptions, Meester had one, and Lotts recovered a fumble. Reicks and Jack Severson each had 4.5 tackles, including two for loss by Reicks.

The Wolverines (2-1) will begin district play in Week 4 by hosting Sumner-Fredericksburg.
