The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team will look for a high note win in its final non-district game at Nevada on Friday, before entering a tough district schedule.
H-D-CAL (2-1 overall) had to forfeit their 16-13 win at West Marshall last week due to violation of IHSAA Iowa Code 36.7 that monitors ineligible player competition, as a Bulldog player participated in more than five quarters allowed in their game against the Trojans. The Bulldogs defense has been a difference maker with 23.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. Colin Bird leads the Bulldogs run game with 313 yards and three touchdowns.

“It’s a homecoming matchup for them, so they’re going to be riding that high of excitement and adrenaline. Going off of our upset last year when we were able to take them down at home, I’m sure that’ll be driving them a little bit tonight too,” says Miller. “I think it’ll be a really good game, it’ll be a tough physical football game. Hopefully we can take the momentum of good defense that we’ve been playing, some solid special teams and in most of the areas build on the offensive success that we’ve had a little bit. Hopefully we can put that all together tonight and play well. Then by the end of the game, find ourselves in a situation that we can go win a game and be successful.”
Nevada (2-1 overall) lost 30-7 at #4(2A)PCM last week. The Cubs slightly favor the run over the pass against defenses. Anthony Eaton has a bulk of the carries with 422 yards and eight touchdowns (2nd in 3A). The Cubs defense has also had success in turnover battle with four fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting 24-21 in Hampton.
