The AGWSR football team will welcome South Winneshiek to Ackley for the first time in Friday’s Homecoming game.

The Cougars (1-3, 1-2 A-3) will look to snap a two-game losing streak, where they were were put away early by North Tama and #3 (A) Nashua-Plainfield.

“They’re a physical ball club,” Head Coach James Koop says. “They play the same type of football that Nashua-Plainfield does. And I thought Nashua should have been called for holding kind of consistently during the game. And the officials told us that if you’re not going to physically break away from it, we’re not going to see it. So you know, our kids have got to be more physical so that’s what we’ve got to do. We’ve got to figure out how to do what we’re doing more consistently than we are right now. And again, in a lot of ways we’re pretty close, but close isn’t going to win ball games. So we got to figure out how to get over the hump.”

The Cougars may look to build upon their passing game. Last week, Collin Willems was 17/21 for 153 yards and a touchdown. The team was held to 41 rushing yards.
South Winneshiek (1-3, 1-1 A-3) has also lost two straight, including a 44-42 loss last week in a shootout with Newman Catholic. A run-heavy team is led by district-leading Kyle Kuboushek with 490 yards and six touchdowns.

South Winneshiek won 16-12 in last year’s first meeting between the programs. The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
