The North Butler football team will look to feed off home field energy in search of tackling their first district win this season facing BCLUW on Friday.

North Butler (2-2, 0-2 A-3) was boxed in by Wapsie Valley in a 33-6 district loss last week. The Bearcats were limited to 118 passing yards and 107 rushing yards in the loss.

North Butler Head Coach Jordan Vanderloop on the team’s focus entering the week and reigniting offense.

We’ve been talking a lot about being leaders, picking each other up and just trusting each other. Little things like that to really focus on and clear up for this week,” says Vanderloop. “We just got to make sure we’re running our routes, crisp, getting the ball out quick and getting it into our playmaker’s hands and let them do their things. You don’t need to throw the ball 50 or 60 yards down the field. A short little five yard out can turn into a big play real quick. Making sure we take what’s given to us.”

The Bearcats will look to keep the BCLUW defense on its heels with a balanced offense. Quarterback Brody Wangsness has 580 passing yards and three touchdowns. A trio of running backs for the Bearcats, Pryor Wiederkehr (186), Jax Thorne (177), Tucker Pecha (174) are on the cusp of 200 yards this season.

BCLUW (0-4, 0-3 district) ran into air raid offense by North Tama in a 54-24 district loss last week. The Comets rely on their run game with 822 yards this season. Wyatt Gould has a bulk of the carries for the Comets with 324 yards and four touchdowns.

North Butler won last year’s meeting 21-7 in Conrad.

Kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Greene.
