The West Fork volleyball team will visit North Butler for a Top of Iowa-East match Tuesday, which will air on 104.9 KLMJ. The Bearcats will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
West Fork (5-7, 2-2 TOI-E) is in a stretch of five straight conference matches, and will play just their third match in two weeks. In their last two matches, they were swept by both Osage and #2 (1A) Saint Ansgar. Head Coach Emily Greimann says it’s a great opportunity to face North Butler for a second time on a special night.
“The breast cancer awareness games just have a special place in my heart,” Greimann says. “My grandma passed away from breast cancer, so being able to do that and support a great cause is just so awesome. I just love being able to be a part of that and to bring light and awareness to that. North Butler, we saw at the Belmond tournament, and ended up going three sets with them, so we know that it’s going to be a great game. Hopefully the girls are ready to compete and that it’s a great game both ways, but hopefully come up on top. We’ve seen them before. That always makes it a little more fun because you kind of know what to expect in them as well. So it’s going to be a great night.”
Brylie Hubka and Leah Weaver each have 51 kills, and the team has hit just .032.
North Butler (3-16, 1-5 TOI-E) will play in their final conference match of the season, and will look to snap a six-match losing streak. Head Coach Sarah Goodrich on some keys to bouncing back.
“Our biggest focus in the second half of our season is running our offense,” Goodrich says. “A lot of times we kind of get in a defensive state where we’re just truly just trying to get the ball back over, where there’s times where we can still stay aggressive and play our game. So that’s kind of our biggest focus. Obviously, it starts with getting serves. Our serves have been improving. We have some individuals that have kind of been leading from that line to start us early in the game, but ultimately just staying aggressive and playing our game offensively.”
Olivia Dralle leads with 93 kills, and the team will look to increase their .028 efficiency.
West Fork snapped a 10-match losing streak in the series with a 2-1 win at a tournament at Belmond-Klemme earlier in the season.
