The #3 (1A) Dike-New Hartford football team on a four game win streak will travel to defending Class 1A runner-up MFL MarMac to contend for the driver’s seat for a district title in Class 1A-3 on Friday. The game will air on 99 The Wave.

DNH (4-1, 2-0 1A-3) won in dominant fashion, 48-6 at Central Spring last week. The Wolverines have overpowered opponents on both sides of the ball during their last three games, allowing six points or fewer defensively and scoring 35 points or more. The one-two punch of senior quarterback Colin Meester with 692 passing yards and 10 touchdowns (T-1st in district), and senior running back Noah Borcherding with 530 rushing yards and six touchdowns (T-2nd in district) has been pivotal.

Wolverine Head Coach Don Betts on playing complementary football during the win streak and defensive requirements against the Bulldogs.

“We’re starting to see some of that consistency. Colin Meester has done a great job of running the offense, is very efficient with the passing game. That’s one of the things that we’ve really wanted to do,” says Betts. “Defensively, we’ve really gotten after people. We’ve got a lot of kids who are aggressive to the football, and they’ve done a great job. The biggest key for us defensively against the Bulldogs is we’ve got to be able to hang with them at the line of scrimmage. They get on a roll, and their kids are just steamrolling people. Their running backs run hard and we’ve got to be able to wrap them up and tackle.”

MFL MarMac (4-1, 2-0 1A-3) won 28-15 at Sumner-Fredericksburg last week. The Bulldogs rely heavily on their strong run game with 1,498 rushing yards (2nd most in 1A). Quinn McGeough is the Bulldogs top back and leads the district with 681 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

MFL-Mar Mac won last year’s meeting 34-14, the Wolverines will look to track down their first win in the series since 2015.

The Roling Ford Road to the Dome Warmup Show begins at 6:15 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Monona.
