Absentee ballots can now be cast in Iowa for the November 5th general election.
Butler County Auditor Leslie Groen tells RadioOnTheGo News that there are a couple of different ways you can register to vote.
“You can stop into the auditor’s office. There’s called a pre-registration. That’s where you just come in. You actually just fill out a registration form and get yourself registered to vote ahead of time. There’s a deadline for that, which is that October 21st deadline. It doesn’t stop you from registering to vote later. That’s called more of an election day registration. And so that may require some additional documentation or paperwork for you to have on file if you’re past that deadline. You can do that through our website. We’ll link to the Secretary of State’s website. You can go directly to the Secretary of State’s website to get ahold of those forms as well.”
Groen says paper ballots will be used for this election.
“On election day, election processing is not attached to the internet. So we don’t use the internet on election day. Those laptops, you know, they are, hold the information for that election. That information is on that laptop, not connected to the internet at all. You know, and then your ballot is counted through another machine that is not hooked to the internet, and we receive those results separately.”
Polls are open on Election Day in Iowa from 7am-8pm.
