The #2 (1A) Dike-New Hartford football team will close its regular season by hosting Denver Friday. Senior Night festivities will also take place.

The Wolverines (6-1, 4-0 1A-3) have taken care of business in district play to clinch the district title, including consecutive shutouts of MFL MarMac and Aplington-Parkersburg in the last two weeks. Currently ranked #2 in the IHSAA Class 1A rankings, a win would almost certainly keep the Wolverines near the top, which would clinch home field advantage through the quarterfinals.

“I love the fact that the Iowa High School Athletic Association decided to approach it the way they have the last couple of years,” Head Coach Don Betts says. “You go out and earn your opportunity to play at home. I think that’s the right way to do that. Even though we were on the road last year, I still think that was the right way to approach that. You’ve got an opportunity to not get on a bus for quite a while, and that would be a great thing.”

Denver (2-5, 1-3 1A-3) has been eliminated from playoff contention and has lost three straight games. Each district loss has been by a fairly decisive margin. DNH will look to contain a prolific passing attack that has proven to be Denver’s main source of yards, with only 274 rushing yards on the season.

The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. at Gunderson Sports Complex.
