The IGHSAU has announced that the state softball tournament will become a double elimination tournament beginning in 2026.
Executive Director Erin Gerlich said in a statement, “Anyone that has watched the Softball College World Series knows how exciting the double-elimination format is.”
The move is in conjunction with the City of Fort Dodge’s upcoming renovations at Harlan & Hazel Rogers Sports Complex, which will include five championship fields, press box accommodations for those fields, additional parking areas, and various other changes.
The tournament will continue to last five days, and a schedule has not been finalized.
