The Belmond-Klemme volleyball team, at 19-9 overall, finished the year 10 games over .500 for the second year in a row (23-7 in 2023) behind the leadership of seven seniors.

B-K Head Coach Leigh Faaborg on the mentorship of this senior group on program.

“They’ve really bought in, put a lot of time in and executed really well. When you have kids that are talented like that and have played for several years, it’s nice to have some younger kids come in and play next to them. Hopefully the way that those seniors play, the things that have made them successful trickle down to some of our underclassmen and some of our lower levels,” says Faaborg. “I’ve been really proud of how they’ve kind of pulled those younger kids along and how everybody comes in fills their role and does their job. It’s worked out for us.”

Three different Broncos seniors achieved career milestones this season. Adasyn Lamb finished with two school records, 901 career kills and 332 kills in a single season. Shaylee Aguilera finished the season with three school records, with 47 assists in a single match and 660 assists in a single season, with 1,249 career assists. Quinn Gabrielson surpassed career milestones of 500 kills and digs, ending with 662 digs and 567 kills this season.

Faaborg on the battle back identity of this team.

“Letting teams get a seven, eight, sometimes nine point lead on us and then battling back. In a lot of ways it just shows how effective those girls can be when they’re on. We’ve worked really hard in practice about pushing the gap of the score in other ways, trying to lead, so that we’re not always battling back in those tough situations. They have done a great job executing, really turning it on when it’s important and playing really well at key times. Very proud of how they’ve been able to do that.”

Belmond-Klemme is projected to return five players to next year’s team.
