The Dike-New Hartford volleyball team capped off its season in last week’s Class 2A semifinals. While the program is accustomed to winning championships, this year’s finish was an accomplishment the team had to battle for.
After losing a large amount of firepower from the previous season, senior Izzy Norton says this year’s team silenced many doubters.
“We had our doubters that we’re gonna get back down here,” Norton says. “Finishing in the top four in 2A is huge. This is such a tough class and there’s a lot of great teams. So I think we have a lot to be proud of.”
Head Coach Diane Harms says the team experienced tremendous development throughout the season, which was awarded with a state tournament appearance.
“everyone wants to be in that championship match, but the growth that the girls have had throughout the season is tremendous,” Harms says. “Making it down to the state tournament, winning a match down here is obviously a goal we set every year. For this group, we’ll reflect on it and just be appreciative of how far we went, and what we were able to accomplish during the year.”
It ended a streak of four consecutive championship match appearances. The Wolverines finished 30-16.
