Fire departments from nine jurisdictions are on the scene of a hay bale fire at a Summit Farms location west of Alden along Hardin County Highway D-20. No injuries reported.
Alden Fire Department Spokesman Jeff Fiscus tells RadioOnTheGo News that they received the first report of the fire about 2am today.
Fiscus says there are three large stacks of hay bales that would each fill a gymnasium, and may have up to 9-thousand bales in each stack. Two of those stacks were on fire, and a smaller stack also caught on fire.
He says water was being transported from Alden to the scene by several trucks, and more manpower was needed to allow some of the firefighters to take a break.
Besides Alden, fire departments from Bradford, Blairsburg, New Providence, Hubbard, Dows, Buckeye, Williams, and Iowa Falls have been fighting the fire.
