The AP/GC and North Butler-Clarksville girls wrestling teams will take part in a tournament at Belle Plaine Saturday.
AP/GC has two tournaments under their belts so far, including a ninth place finish at South Tama and a fifth place finish at Decorah. Head Coach Joel Reints says some newcomers are bolstering the lineup.
“Caylee Harken is a new wrestler this year as a freshman, really strong girl, getting some quality reps in the wrestling room and doing a great job for us,” Reints says. “There’s a couple new ones, Jocelyn Freed, Makenna Steinmeyer are picking things up really quick. Evelyn Geerdes, lighter weight, looks good. For someone to come in and have, what, three days under their belt and look that good is pretty impressive. Katie Patrick, Delaney Schafer, both look good. Kylie Babcock is returning as well, I know she put in a lot of work in this off-season, going to another club and stuff just to get some more experience. Overall the girls have been putting in a lot of quality work.”
Junior Grace Storjohann is off to a 7-0 start at 120 to lead the team.
North Butler-Clarksville is being led in wins by Mackenzie Shultz, who’s 5-2 at 130 and coming off a fourth place finish at Mason City Tuesday, where the team placed seventh.
The tournament will start at 10:00 a.m.
