The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team will begin a three-game opening week by hosting Wright County rival Eagle Grove in their season opener on Monday.

C-G-D Head Coach Jason Berning on the character of the rivalry and the Eagles guard play.

“It’s a competitive, highly spirited game and doesn’t matter what sport we’re talking about when it’s Eagle Grove and CGD. There’s gonna be some emotion to it and both teams are really gonna fight to get that victory,” says Berning. “They have some good guards we need to really lock in how we’re gonna defend them, they provide a challenge for us. We’re gonna go out and compete. We’re gonna see how it goes this year against Eagle Grove. It should be a lot of fun for opening night and a home opener as well.”

Eagle Grove went 11-11 last season. Jaxon Morris is the Eagles’ top returning scorer after averaging 13.7 points per game and added 70 assists last season. Josh Miller returns as the Eagles top rebounder after recording a team best 160 boards last season.

C-G-D won last year’s meeting 51-45 at Eagle Grove.

Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. in Clarion.
