The Clarksville girls basketball team is off to an undefeated start to this season, as they went 3-0, 2-0 in Iowa Star Conference during opening week last week for the first time since 2022-2023 season (4-0). The Indians won 52-39 at Janesville in season opener, 64-30 in home opener over Don Bosco and 47-36 at Nashua-Plainfield.

Head Coach Ross Timmermans on the passion and teamwork the Indians have played with to begin season.

“It’s so much fun working with a group that really plays with passion. You have that feeling that they really do enjoy playing hard and having fun playing hard. They’re not afraid of getting down and getting after it, getting on the floor for loose balls, taking charges,” says Timmermans. “No matter what the score is going to be at the end of the day, I know that these girls are going to bust it on both ends of the floor. The camaraderie, the team chemistry, they have each other’s backs, in good times and bad times. I think that that’s gonna be a thing that hopefully continues the rest of the season.”

The Indians in first three games have been locked in defensively holding all three opponents under 40 points. The offense has featured balanced scoring with at least three players averaging double figures per game.

Timmermans on production leaders for team in opening week.

“In the scoring department Paige had 24 against Janesville and had 23 against Don Bosco. We’ve had double digit scoring nights from multiple girls. We had 12 points from Emily Manwarren, 11 points from Jeni Johnson, and 6 from Hannah Wangsness. To go along with those 6 points for Hannah, she had close to 20 rebounds, she is a rebounding force. She also had a double-double against Janesville. There’s a lot of girls really stepping up in fulfilling roles that we’d hope they would.”

Clarksville returns to action at #3(1A)Riceville on Tuesday.
