The #14(2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Iowa Falls-Alden boys wrestling teams will look for some marquee North Central Conference dual wins at #3(2A) Algona in triangular on Thursday on 104.9 KLMJ.
C-G-D (2-0) won over Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Webster City in home conference triangular on Thursday, December 12. The Cowboys are led by Linden Phetxouphone who is 8-0 at 120, Adrian Phetxouphone who is 7-1 at 132 and Charlie Campbell who is 8-1 at 190.
Head Coach Dillon Anderson on strategy entering triangular, that will lead off busy weekend of wrestling.
“Tough dual teams and tough individuals. Algona is ranked third, they’re a pretty salty and solid team,” says Anderson. “We’ll have to come ready to roll, we can’t have any slip ups. We got to wrestle smart and we’ll have a chance to put ourselves in a contention to win that dual. Iowa Falls, I think we probably are favored in, but we still have got to wrestle smart and control what we can control.”
Iowa Falls-Alden (7-0) won over Clear Lake and St.Edmond, Fort Dodge in conference triangular on Tuesday, December 10th. The Cadets are led by Sam Robinson who is 7-0 between time at 132 and 138, Keaton Mulford who is 6-1 at 157 and Trevor Bailey who is 7-0 at 190.
Head Coach Scott Patton on opportunity for team to wrestle against conference best.
“We want the opportunity to see where we’re at, we want to compete against the best. I know these two teams will be up towards the top of the conference dual meet standings, so we want to see where we’re at,” says Patton. “It’s another step for us towards bigger goals at the end of the season. We’re just thankful for every opportunity that we get and hopefully we keep moving in the right direction.”
Algona(1-0) won conference opener over Humboldt 39-24 on Thursday, December 12th. The Bulldogs are led by Isaac Wilson who is 6-2 at 132 and Barrett Morgan who is 6-2 at 157.
The first dual will be C-G-D v.s. Iowa Falls-Alden, followed by Algona v.s. Iowa Falls-Alden and the final dual will be Algona v.s. C-G-D.
Coverage begins at 5:50 p.m. followed by the opening dual at 6:00 p.m. in Algona.
