The AP/GC boys and girls wrestling teams each went 2-0 in Thursday’s triangulars at Sumner-Fredericksburg, as aired on 99 The Wave.

The boys defeated Columbus Catholic 66-18 and Sumner-Fredericksburg 42-38. Against the Sailors, AP/GC had five wins by forfeit and six pins. Creyton Eberhart at 165, Cooper Keller at 175, Carter Liston at 126, Emerick Nolte at 138, Devan Eberhardt at 144 and Parker Mulder at 157 each won by fall to secure the dominant win.

Against the Cougars, the Falcons came back from a 10-point deficit. Devan Eberhardt at 144, Elias Cakerice at 150 and Mulder at 157 won consecutive pins to put the dual out of reach before the final match was contested. AP/GC also got a pin by Maison Copp at 190 and won three open weight classes to earn the sweep. Head Coach Joel Reints says it was a quality win over a tough Sumner-Fredericksburg team.

“They’re always tough, they’re well-coached and their kids are just tough wrestlers, and I thought we battled them pretty close,” Reints says. “There was a couple weights, I felt like we were a little lackadaisical, but overall, pretty happy with the performance. And then Parker Mulder coming through in a big way at the end, down in that match, man that’s just what Parker does, is keeps working, keeps grinding through his match, and then eventually it’s going to turn at some point, and it sure did to secure that dual win for us at the end.”

The AP/GC girls beat Columbus 60-0 and Sumner-Fredericksburg 53-24. Only three matches were contested against the Sailors, which included pins by Jocelyn Freed at 130 and Ellie Reints at 135. Against the Cougars, Grace Storjohann at 120, Freed at 130 and Caylee Harken at 140 each earned pins, and Zoey Uhlenhopp won a technical fall at 145. Reints says the results were a continuation of a successful week.

“The girls are doing awesome. They really are. We lost one head-to-head matchup against Sumner-Fredericksburg. So that score is a little bit deceiving. There’s a lot of forfeits in there and stuff, but you know, I feel good about the ones that we wrestled in. Caylee Harken had a nice bounce back after her first dual loss. Zoey Uhlenhopp coming up big with a tech. And Grace, a 100-match winner, they bumped up their 115-pounder and she just went out and took care of business.”

The girls will return to action Friday at a tournament at Central Elkader. The boys will be in action at Saturday’s Glen Brand Dual Tournament at #4 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
