C-G-D Boys Wrestling Goes Undefeated, Hampton-Dumont-CAL goes 4-1, AP/GC Winless at Glen Brand Dual Tournament Saturday

The #4 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys wrestling team was the tournament champion by going 5-0, #19 (2A) Hampton-Dumont-CAL was among the runner-ups with a 4-1 outing, and AP/GC went 0-5 as part of a highly talented field that included four ranked teams at the Glen Brand Dual Tournament hosted by the Cowboys on Saturday.

C-G-D’s undefeated day included wins over AP-GC (68-12), #18 (2A) Decorah (49-29), Earlham (57-19), #21 (2A) West Marshall and #19 (2A) Hampton-Dumont-CAL (40-32). Five Cowboys went 5-0, including Linden Phetxoumphone between 120 and 126, Adrian Phetxoumphone between 126 and 132, Colin Sesker at 144, Charlie Campbell between 175 and 190 and JT Kelso at 285. Two Cowboys closed the day at 4-0, including Paxton Redenius at 113 and Ryan Hartwig at 126 and 132.

H-D-CAL’s day included wins over AP-GC (57-24), #18 (2A) Decorah (55-21), Earlham (55-19), #21 (2A) West Marshall (47-32) and a loss to C-G-D. Four Bulldogs held perfect records on the day, including Jacob Mahler (5-0) between 132 and 138, Taylor Mahler (5-0) between 157 and 165 and Colin Bird (5-0) between 165 and 175, and Ryder Strother (4-0) between 150 and 157. Three Bulldogs only had one loss, including Madox Strother (4-1) at 106, Charlie Showalter (4-1) at 138 and Maddon Evans (4-1) at 215.

AP-GC fell to #18 (2A) Decorah (65-12), Earlham (50-24), #21(2A) West Marshall (55-23) and to the Bulldogs and Cowboys. Maison Copp went 5-0 at 190 and Jesse Brouwer went 4-1 at 215 to lead the team.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (11-6) will be at a quad hosted by St. Edmond on Tuesday. Hampton-Dumont-CAL (11-5) will return to the mat for a double dual at #2 (2A) Algona on Thursday. AP/GC (6-8) will be at Oelwein for a triangular on Thursday.
