This week the Meservey City Council met with Monica Halverson from Belmond EMS and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff David Hepperly to discuss options for ambulance service.
If boundary lines were redrawn, it would have to go through the county board of supervisors, who would have to decide where to draw them in rural areas around the city.
Hepperly says the Mason City Fire Department would be okay with the Belmond Ambulance coming into their district.
Halverson is receptive to covering the area, however, she wants the council to know that they may be trading response speed for level of care, as Belmond can only guarantee an EMT rather than the paramedics that Mason City offers, and an EMT would not be able to transport to Mason City or any other hospital for the higher level of care, which could increase time doing a transfer with another ambulance service.
No action was taken by the Meservey City Council.
