The West Fork boys wrestling team will take on North Union and Newman Catholic as part of a Top of Iowa Conference triangular hosted by the Knights on Thursday on 104.9 KLMJ.

West Fork (1-11) will look for first dual win in new year. Last time out the Warhawks competed at Forest City Invite on Saturday and had a medalist in Jasper Jones, who placed third at 150.

West Fork Head Coach Keaton Wilson on improvement in bottom position.

“I’m excited to see what some of our guys can do and put forward. We’ve been working really hard on the bottom position as of late because we’re getting trapped underneath and then we’re giving people our arms and then we can’t escape,” says Wilson. “When we know we can get out from the bottom, we just have got to move the proper way and hit the proper moves off of the whistle.”

Wilson on standout wrestlers and what they bring to the mat.

“Jasper, needs to just keep to the grindstone, keep his nose down, keep on wrestling and not be comfortable with just leading. If he goes out there and just wrestles the way he knows how to wrestle, he’s looking at a really good record right now,” says Wilson. “Jensen Robbins, every day, asks questions, shows up for his team and puts in some hard, hard work. From the beginning of the season till now, it’s night and day, how much he’s improved and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Same thing goes for Preston Starr. He is one of those kids that you show him something and he won’t stop working until he gets it down.”

Jasper Jones is 10-11 at 150, Preston Starr is 11-13 at 144 and Jensen Robbins is 10-13 at 10-13.

Newman Catholic (0-14) went 0-3 in Top of Iowa Conference quad on Tuesday, with losses to Eagle Grove, North Butler-Clarksville and Saint Ansgar. Alex Bosch is 22-4 at 144 and Mael Quam is 14-10 at 132 to lead the Knights.

North Union (5-13) placed 10th at GTRA Invite on Saturday and had three medalists. Brennan Bollinger is 29-2 at 285, Lucas Dreyer is 25-11 at 215 and Max Merrill is 23-12 at 190 to lead the Warriors.

Coverage on 104.9 KLMJ will begin just after 6:05 p.m. followed by the first dual at 6:15 p.m. in Mason City.
