The director David Lynch, known for his bizarre and surrealist films and tv shows, passed away. He is one of my favorite directors, and have been obsessed with Twin Peaks since discovering the series in the early days of Hulu. Twin Peaks is a TV series created by Lynch and Mark Frost that fascinated audiences and begged the question, “Who killed Laura Palmer?” The mystery series started in 1990 airing on ABC, running for two seasons. After the run of the show, a prequel movie to the series, Fire Walk with Me was released in 1992. Streaming services that carried the series introduced the show to a new, younger audience that became obsessed with the show and begged for a return. So, in 2017, Showtime aired season 3 of Twin Peaks. I own the complete series including season 3, on DVD. I sadly lent my copy of Fire Walk with Me, years ago, and never received it back. I even dressed up as the Log Lady from the series for Halloween one year. I also own the movie Eraserhead on DVD, which was Lynch’s debut feature film. The film was a midnight movie, after its release in 1977, in New York and LA where it created a cult following. Other notable Lynch films include Mulholland Drive(2001), Wild at Heart(90) Blue Velvet(1986), and Dune(1984). For fans of Twin Peaks, I have also found a Youtube video explaining the entire series by creator Twin Perfect, that is over 4 hours long. It’s very well done, and a recommended video for die hard fans of the series.
David Lynch has inspired many artists and directors, and I am sure we will continue to see his influence in film and tv for years to come.
