The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls wrestling team went 0-3 at Monday’s home quad, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The Bulldogs fell to Perry 39-30, Algona 64-12 and Nevada 33-28.
Against Perry, Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s team points were awarded due to open weight classes by the Bluejays. Against Algona, Megan Severs got a pin at 145, and there was an open weight at 190. In the dual with Nevada, Marlee Maas won a 10-2 major decision at 125, Severs got a pin at 145, and they got 18 points due to open weight classes by Nevada. But the Cubs had slightly more firepower to take some of the contested matches.
“We went 0-3, but we had a lot of personal wins tonight,” Head Coach Brittany Stevens says. “I saw some girls hitting some moves that we’ve been working on in practice, and to see them come out and hit them in a meet, that’s a win. They’re working hard, and we’re right there. We’re so very close. So I just keep telling them we’re just going to keep fighting.”
Severs led with two pins and a win by forfeit.
Hampton-Dumont-CAL has concluded its dual season at 5-11.
