The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will return to NICL-Central action by hosting Hudson Tuesday.

The Falcon girls (10-3, 3-2 NICL-C) are coming off Friday’s 76-39 win over Columbus Catholic, where they forced 35 turnovers and had two 20-point scorers; Peyton Klooster led with 23 and Eva Walker had 20. Hudson (9-3, 3-1 NICL-C) has won four straight, including 52-41 over AGWSR Friday. AP coach Brady Driscol looks forward to facing the Pirates for the second time after falling 51-45 in December when the teams last met.

“We thought we had our opportunities early on in that game,” Driscol says. “A lot of missed bunnies. I think we came out with a little too much energy, a little too much, trying to play a little too fast, which came back to bite us a little bit and got ourselves in a deep hole. And obviously we’ve had to crawl out of deep holes before, between the Hudson game and the Denver game here recently, where we came back and made it pretty darn close or even took the lead. But if we can start better against that Hudson team, and they’re a tough matchup. They got a lot of pieces. Jeff’s done a great job with them. So they’re a tough matchup, but if we can make our shots early, usually shoot a little better at our place, I think that can be a good thing for us.”

The Falcon boys (11-1, 5-0 NICL-C) have won four straight, including 69-58 over Kee in Saturday’s Upper Iowa Shootout. With some recent big performances, Benny Waller is now the Central’s leading scorer at 21.2 points per game. Hudson (2-9, 1-3 NICL-C) has won two straight over Columbus Catholic and AGWSR to gain some momentum after losing their first nine games. When the teams met in December, the Falcons allowed the fewest points in a game in program history with a 67-18 win.

The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
