The Alexander Fire Department yesterday about 1:20pm was called out on the report of a barn on fire at 15-87 Wright Avenue south of town. No injuries reported.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the east end of the barn. The very cold temperatures and wind did not help in fighting the fire, as some of the pumps on the fire trucks froze up. Fire departments from Latimer, Coulter, Dows and Belmond were called in to assist.
The barn is considered to be a total loss. Firefighters were on the scene for over 3 hours, and then were called back out a couple of times last night because of hot spots.
The cause is under investigation.
