The AP/GC boys wrestling team will host AGWSR and #8 (1A) Denver for a North Iowa Cedar League triangular Thursday at Grundy Center, which’ll air on 99 The Wave.
AP/GC is coming off an 0-4 outing at Saturday’s Doc Car Duals at New Hampton, which included a 65-16 loss to the Cyclones. Head Coach Joel Reints says his team has a chance to flip some matches the other direction.
“They’ve got a pretty good senior class and then even their underclassmen, they got a couple of guys that are going to be competing for state titles this year at the 1A level,” Reints says. “And a couple of them are probably nationally rated on the high school circuit. Up and down their lineup, they’re very tough. I want to see us just improve. There’s a couple of matches where I thought maybe we got a little caught in a bad situation and got put to our back. Maison Copp at 190 and Mason Pruisner stepping in as a freshman too. He was wrestling really well and just kind of got caught and put to his back. So at 175 and 190, I kind of look for different results there. Maybe we can close that gap.”
AGWSR is coming off a fifth place finish at Saturday’s Cougar Invite at home. Kealain Urban was the champion at 106, Clayton VanLoh placed second at 190 and Jariyah Bowles was third at 138.
Denver went 3-1 at Saturday’s Doc Carr Duals. They have four ranked wrestlers according to the latest IAwrestle rankings, including #1 (1A-126) Gavin Landers and #2 (1A-157) Boden White.
Coverage will start at 6:00 p.m. followed by the first dual at 6:15.
