The West Fork girls and boys basketball teams each extended their win streaks to three straight games with wins over rival North Butler on senior night on Tuesday. The Warhawk girls won 58-22 and the boys won 41-34. The Warhawks also recognized 14 basketball seniors in their final regular season home games.
In the girls game, West Fork’s defense boxed in the Bearcats offense and the Warhawks sprinted out to a 25-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. West Fork with a 17-9 advantage in the second quarter, extended their lead to 42-11 at the half. Scoring decreased as the Warhawks scored 16 points and the Bearcats scored 11 points between the final two quarters. Leah Weaver had 15 points and Karma McMorris added 12 points to lead the Warhawks. Zoey Thompson had 15 points to lead the Bearcats.
In the boys game, it was tied at 12 after a back and forth first quarter. North Butler outscored the Warhawks 13-6 in the second quarter to take a 25-18 lead at the half. The Warhawks, after trailing 27-18 to the Bearcats early in the third, battled back with a 12-3 run to tie the game at 30 heading to the fourth. The Warhawks held the Bearcats to four points in the fourth and scored 11 points of their own to defend home floor. Ashyr Wiseman and Xavier Haller had 10 points apiece for the Warhawks. Brody Wangsness had 12 points for the Bearcats.
The West Fork girls (15-3, 10-1 TIC-East) and the Warhawk boys (8-9, 5-6 TIC-East) will visit Nashua-Plainfield on Friday. The North Butler girls (3-15, 2-10 TIC-East) and North Butler boys (6-13, 4-8 TIC-East) will host Osage on Thursday.
