A former Hampton man who was convicted of four counts of 2nd degree sexual abuse died Tuesday at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.
53-year-old Chad Burmester had been serving his sentence at the Newton Correctional Facility since January of 2007.
The state alleged Burmester sexually abused a 7-year-old girl in Black Hawk County in 2004, and he was arrested in 2006 after police found pictures of the encounters on his computer.
Burmester was sentenced for up to 25 years in prison on the state sex abuse charges, and was also serving a concurrent sentence of 30 years on federal child porn charges.
