The Iowa Falls-Alden basketball teams were swept at Clear Lake in a North Central Conference doubleheader Tuesday. The girls lost 51-39 and the boys fell to the #1 (3A) Lions 86-44.
In the girls game, the Lions held the advantage from the start, leading 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Cadets cut the deficit to three in the second quarter, but a long scoring drought allowed Clear Lake to stretch their halftime lead to 33-19. Despite winning the second half, the Cadets were unable to gain enough ground for a comeback. Addison Dennis led with 17 points and Elody England added 14. A 9-11 regular season has ended ahead of Saturday’s regional quarterfinal at home against Osage.
In the boys game, Iowa Falls-Alden jumped out to a 19-17 lead after the first quarter, putting the undefeated Lions on upset alert. But Clear Lake dominated the final three quarters, outscoring the Cadets 27-9 in the second quarter, and the lead never got smaller. Iowa Falls-Alden was held to just 16 points in the second half, and the running clock rule went into effect. Kale Kalous led with 11 points and Calvin Hutchinson added 10. The Cadets will return to action Friday at Algona to close the regular season.
