40-year-old Monroe Thompson of Mason City was sentenced last week to more than 20-years in federal prison after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Evidence in the case revealed that between May 2022, and August 2023, Thompson was part of an ongoing drug conspiracy based in Mason City to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Thompson purchased meth from sources working with law enforcement. During the execution of a search warrant at Thompson’s residence, officers located counterfeit M-30 pills containing fentanyl.
Thompson has an extensive criminal history from cases in Iowa as well as from Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Thompson was sentenced in Sioux City to 262 months in prison. There is no parole in the federal court system.
