The West Fork boys wrestling team will compete at the Class 1A District 6 state qualifying tournament at Osage on Saturday.
Warhawks Head Coach Keaton Wilson on mentality entering a win or go home tournament.
“Grit, the mentality aspect of wrestling, everything comes into play. You gotta be mentally tougher and ready to go at this tournament. If you’re off just a little, your season’s over. I think our guys are ready,” says Wilson. “We’ve been talking about it a lot. Clear your slate. Don’t worry about your record going into this tournament. Throw everything you got at guys, or you may be staying at home and not going down to state. We’re going to just go out there at wrestle, that’s all you can do. Just go out there and step foot on the mat and wrestle. That’s what I plan to see. Execute the little things right and we’ll see how it goes.”
The Warhawks have three wrestlers with over 15 wins including Jasper Jones (21-17) at 144, Andrew Baker (18-20) at 165 and Preston Starr (17-19) at 150.
The top two placewinners in each weight class will advance to the state tournament. Wrestlebacks will be held for second place.
The tournament was delayed from the original 10 a.m. start due to weather and will begin at 12:00 p.m. in Osage.
